About the route
The Sancaka trains at 07:00, 11:15, 16:30 and 22:00 run through to Yogyakarta, and the Argo Wilis at 08:30 and Argo Semeru at 09:05 are also good options. The slower evening trains, such as the Mutiara Selatan at 18:10 and Bima at 19:20, take longer but get you in at a sensible hour.
Solo, also known as Surakarta, is a quiet, relaxed city with a royal palace and a good food scene, including nasi liwet. Balapan is the main station, in the north of the city, and you can take a taxi, a becak or the local Batik Solo Trans bus into the centre.
