About the route
The Argo trains include the Argo Merbabu at 05:50 and 14:00, the Argo Sindoro at 07:00 and the Argo Bromo Anggrek at 12:05. If you would rather sleep on the train, the late evening trains, such as the Argo Sindoro at 22:40 and Brawijaya at 22:54, arrive in Jakarta in the early morning.
The trains arrive at Gambir, near Merdeka Square and the National Monument, so you are well placed for the centre of Jakarta. Before you leave Semarang, it is worth spending an hour in the Kota Lama, the old Dutch quarter next to the station, which is one of the best-preserved colonial districts in Java.
