Ten trains run from Prachuap Khiri Khan to Bangkok, and like most trains heading north on this line, they run either in the middle of the night or in the early morning. The journey is 318 km and takes between 4 hours 40 minutes and 5 hours 38 minutes.

How to buy tickets
The easiest way to buy train tickets in Thailand is online rather than going to the station. You do pay a very small commission but the ease and convenience makes it worthwhile in our opinion.
Baolau is the best site to use for buying train tickets, they have access to the live Thai Railways booking engine, so you can easily see availability, timetables and prices.
Payment can be made using international credit cards and PDF confirmation tickets are sent to your email address within a few minutes. This is the actual ticket you need to board the train, so there’s no need to exchange it at the station before travel. You may prefer to print the pdf out, but it’s also fine to show it on your mobile phone to the conductors and station staff.
Tickets go on sale 30 days in advance, opening at 08:30 Thai time. For full details on booking windows, see the when to book Thailand train tickets guide.

About the route
Departures start at 00:55 and run through the small hours, with a cluster between about 03:00 and 05:00 that gets you into Bangkok in time for breakfast. Only one train, the 13:25, leaves in the daytime, and two more go late at night, at 23:00 and 23:59. If you want to sleep properly, the late evening trains arrive in Bangkok before dawn, while the early morning ones leave you with a full day ahead in the city.
The railway station is in the middle of town, only a short walk from the seafront, so there is no rush to leave your hotel early. If you have time before a night train, climb Khao Chong Krachok, the hill at the north end of the bay, for the view over the town and the water. The monkeys there are used to visitors, so keep any food in your bag.
